Question:

Why do I need a business plan?

Answer:

Business owners are under ever increasing pressure in our 21st century business environment.  New technologies, global competition, HR issues, security concerns, and much more are cause for concern.  The demands especially on small business owners are more intense then ever before.  Running your business and keeping all departments operating smoothly can be a challenge for even the most competent business leaders.  A written business plan helps to organize and guide a business or organization, and can be used as a mechanism for the achievement of their goals and objectives.  Failure to have a written business plan is one of the primary reasons for the collapse of a business.

Question:

Why should I hire Burke Management Consultants to prepare me a business plan when I could purchase ‘out of the box’ software where I simply fill in the blanks and it prepares the business plan for me?  It seems like a savings of time and money to do it this way…?

Answer:

For some people, a ‘canned’ program or ‘fill in the blanks’ approach might be enough, however  the benefit of utilizing the services of an outside business consultant is especially helpful when their extensive knowledge and experience is needed to ensure success.

Question:

How often should I review my business plan?  Why?

Answer:

The business plan should be a useable tool, not a shelf decoration of stuffed in a file drawer.  Each member of the executive and management team should know their part in carrying out the plan.  One section of the business plan is the Action Plan.  The Action Plan gives a step-by-step list of the necessary activities to achieve success and accomplishment of goals. Since the business plan is a useable tool for goals achievement, it should be reviewed and discussed regularly (weekly, monthly, quarterly).

Question:

How often should I update my business plan?

Answer:

It is recommended that the Business Plan be updated on a yearly basis, and the Action Plan on a quarterly basis.

Question:

How many pages is the typical Business Plan?

Answer:

There is no hard and fast rule.  Many of the plans written by Burke Management Consultants have averaged between 25 and 35 pages.  Our plans are challenging, yet realistic and will be a major asset toward the continued success of your corporation or organization.
